Fashion Designer NINA SKARRA was born in Tromso, the arctic city of Northern lights in Norway. She moved to London to study design at Camberwell College of Arts. The internationally awarded Norwegian designer started her first job as an illustrator and packaging designer at The Body Shop Design Studio. She was then known for her rough edge design and illustrations using torn paper.

 

After Working as an illustrator, profile designer and Art Director within TV production, film and advertising in London, New York and Oslo, she started her own design company in 1998. In 2005 after being in a serious car accident, Nina decided to start working with her passions for textiles and fashion as a couture designer. In 2008 NIna Skarra launched her first collection at the Oslo Fashion Week.

 

For her first collection in 2008, Nina Skarra used the Northern light as inspiration. The popular "New Look" which featured her own way of revitalising chiffon, organza, and tulle that turned every design-piece into a jewel,worked in oversized volumes in order to form new dimensions was instant hit with some of London's "it" girls. She them establishing herself as a Norwegian couture designer, and with her luxury ready to wear collection Nina Skarra is opening her first store in Oslo, at Scandinvias new Luxury Fashion House, Eger at Karl Johan.

 

Nina Skarra is focusing on sustainable fashion, Every stage in the value chain is addressed, like ecological raw material, non toxic colour processing, fair labour, packaging, shipment, distribution and design for long lasting garments.

 

Nina Skarra's design is about impeccable craftsmanship and every collection has a theme or story. the Autumn/ Winter 2009 collection is the story of a warrior of a a warrior princess, a strong female personality, determined in pursuit of her goals Nina Skarra has Created a collection of sculpture knits carved and layered and designed with ultimate felinity in mind with never before seen silhouetted shape and fabric treatments. Nina creates new techniques, culling inspiration from those of historical cloths. The result is a collection that is sophisticated and sculptural, created in luxurious fabrics and knits in a neutral palette.
